HIGHLIGHTS OF 8TH BANKING & FINANCE CONFERENCE

Changing Contours of Banking and India's Growth Aspirations

Two new full-fledged banks recently launched operations. Newer banking entities in the form of payment banks and small banks are set to launch. Technology and telecom companies, which were facilitators, are emerging as strategic allies and competitors of Indian banks, which are under pressure to achieve global size and efficiency.

The Government has noted the importance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Besides, greener opportunities are opening up. Under the Prime Minister’s Jan DhanYojana, 21 crore bank accounts were opened in 12 months, garnering deposits amounting to Rs. 33,000 crore. Financial inclusion is emerging as the next growth driver, complementing the traditional drivers of banking viz. consumption, investment and trade.

Rapidly expanding banking services are being offered on increasingly cheaper smart phones. Banking can support the Digital India initiative and enable GenNext to achieve its growth aspirations.

The objective of the Conference is to discuss the roadmap for Indian banking to navigate through this arena of unconventional competition and unparalleled opportunity.
